Three Serpents. One Brotherhood. A Legacy Never Forgotten.

October is Gothic Serpent Month. A time to remember the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood of the American warriors who fought during Operation Gothic Serpent in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993. Their valor during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 3–4 remains an enduring testament to the bonds forged in combat.

In their honor, Hooten & Young proudly presents the Gothic Serpent Culebra, a distinctive tribute that brings together military heritage and one of cigar making's most fascinating traditions.

The Culebra, Spanish for "snake," is a rare cigar format with roots dating back to the 19th century. Traditionally, three cigars are twisted together while the tobacco is still pliable, creating the unmistakable serpentine appearance. According to cigar-making legend, factory workers received three braided cigars as their daily allowance, allowing owners to distinguish employee cigars from those intended for sale. Though the story's origins remain debated, the Culebra has endured as a symbol of craftsmanship, tradition, and camaraderie.

Our interpretation honors that heritage with an unmistakable Hooten & Young character.

Each collection features nine premium cigars, arranged in three handcrafted Culebra bundles. Each bundle brings together two striking barber-pole cigars and one serpent cigar, showcasing contrasting tobacco wrappers and the artistry of skilled Nicaraguan cigar makers.

Hand-rolled in Nicaragua, these medium-to-full-bodied cigars offer a distinctive smoking experience, equally suited for personal enjoyment or sharing with those who appreciate tradition, craftsmanship, and the stories that bring us together.

The three intertwined cigars are a fitting reminder of the bonds of brotherhood: individual in character, yet bound together by something greater.
